Paru en 2004 sous le titre : The Cat Who Talked Turkey

    L'histoire

    Summary

It’s Saturday, May 31th, the day of the groundbreaking ceremony for the building of the new library. The choice of the place is important : it is the old bookstore of Edd Smith. This building was built in 1850. The place is a matter of speculation because everyone knows that Edd’s grandfather was a blacksmith Edd and sometimes was a pirate on the Lake .

A mysterious chest had been buried under the tree in the middle of the yard, but the shovel will only reveal an empty chest !  The spectators, the tourists and even the journalists who attended this even are very disappointed. We can assume that the clever Edd lived well thanks to this famous treasure.  His bookstore and his bindery did not do well financially.

The same day when everyone was busy, a body (once again!) is discovered in the Klingenschoen property near the Lake

But our friend Qwill will have a good alibi!

Meanwhile, it is the Bicentenary of Bixby County and Qwill prepares a new show about the Great Storm of 1913.

    Some feelings about the book

The detective plot is very light. The book brings us in beautiful Moose County and shares the daily life of its' inhabitants and the adventures of Qwill and his two cats.

Koko learns to respond to wild turkeys who cross the old orchard.

Qwill’s book is finally published:  "Short and Long Tales” ! This is a collection of 27 local stories.

At the beginning of the series, his first book was entitled "City of Crime’s Brotherhood”. In this book, it is called "Crimes in the Big Cities."

    Anecdotes

Pages 20 and 21 (in the French version), read the persiflage about the planes from the small local airport. Very funny !

And do not miss the incredible conversation between Qwill and Hodges, the architect who builds the library.

It is well known: book rhymes with cat and the new library makes no exception. A small red “bibliochat”( librarycat) becomes the mascot of this place. His name is Dundee and has green eyes.

Gary Pratt (The Black Bear Café) married Maxine and Bushy finally met Janice, who was the assistant of Thelma.

We meet a new character with a curious name, Alicia Carroll. This name reminds us of the author Lewis Carroll and his famous character, Alice!

"Snark Hunting" is a book read by Qwill. In French, a snark is a geometric figure but in English it is an imaginary animal. So French people can make a connection with the “dahut”.

If you want to know what a turkey looks like, watch the excellent documentary by Joe Hutto, who lived for several months with wild turkeys. This documentary received an Emmy Award in 2012.

    Special quotes

    • An adage of Cool Koko is called a kokoïsm. For instance :

"There is a destiny that leads the hungry cats in the right place."

    • One day Qwill told Thornton Haggis:

    - Anyone who lives alone needs to have responsibility for a living creature otherwise there is a risk of flipping out! "

And Thornton replied: "Your only danger, I think, is to be lost in a cloud of hyperboles !"
